CloudVPS has been nominated for the Computable Awards in the category ‘Cloud Provider of the Year’. We have been nominated by the professional judges because of our efforts in creating the first European OpenStack cloud and our free worldwide Content Delivery Network spread out over 93 locations.
Popular ICT magazine Computable yesterday announced the sixty nominated parties for the Computable Awards 2014, the most important ICT awards in the Netherlands. These are projects, organisations and people that have contributed a significantly to the ICT landscape over the last year according to Computable readers. There are five nominated parties in the Best Cloud Provider segment, with Microsoft and Amazon Web Services amongst them. The winners are determined by an independent professional jury and by the party getting the maximum number of votes. A public vote will be taken until the 15th of October 2014.
This nomination is the crown on the work of our OpenStack team, that has worked hard over the last two years to develop new cloud services using this openscource cloud platform. We are very proud that we belong to the top 5 of the best cloud providers are now getting ready to go for number one! The first step will be the launch of the first completely OpenStack based public cloud in Europe
Motivation of Computable: Pioneering Role
The pioneering role in the quickly growing OpenStack project was for the judges an important reason to nominate CloudVPS. We have launched our first OpenStack product last year, the CloudVPS Object Store, an extremely scalable cloud storage platform. Over the next few weeks the OpenStack based cloud server platform CloudVPS Compute becomes available. This is a fast and scalable virtual server platform that can be used to create complex networks in a matter of minutes. Invoicing will be done on the basis of actually used resources.
By using OpenStack CloudVPS will be able to make additional functionality like Load Balancing and Database as a Service available quickly. Customers, in the meanwhile, will be able to choose from multiple suppliers and will never be locked into the CloudVPS platform. The short term aims is to start offering an open and privacy aware alternative for US based services like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.
International Content Delivery Network
Besides OpenStack the launch of a free global Content Delivery Network was een important factor for the judges. CloudVPS has partnered with international telecom provider Level 3 on this project, which allows web content of our customers to be served from 93 locations worldwide.
