Windows Services timeout

Some Windows services, such as MS-SQL, can be shut down after the server is restarted.

Windows only gives a service 30 seconds to start. If a large, heavily used MS-SQL server takes longer to start, it is terminated without any entry being made in the Windows Event Log. Microsoft has described a way to increase the length of this timeout by making a change to the Windows Register: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc756342%28WS.10%29.aspx

As an example, for 10 minutes, set the DWORD value to 600000 ms.
