Working on your application(s) and no longer being busy with the underlying infrastructure. CloudVPS offers you this with its public cloud based on OpenStack. You use what you need, when you need it, and you only pay for what you actually use. However, CloudVPS goes beyond Infrastructure-as-a-Service. With OpenStack you have a complete Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) at your disposal. You can configure all infrastructure components yourself to realize the IT services that meet your needs. You can manage compute, storage and networking via both the Horizon web interface and the API. You can manage your infrastructure manually or automatically from your application(s) or via the tooling.
With a VPN no guarantee of performance
With OpenStack you are able to segment your application(s) by implementing a separation in the mutual networks. In addition, you can work with security groups to enforce which servers or services can communicate with each other. This allows you to apply optimal security within the OpenStack environment, but this remains within OpenStack. If you want to work from your office locations via a secure network or use a multi-cloud strategy, you will soon be surrendered to VPN connections. A VPN has the disadvantage that it must be implemented and managed separately. This requires specific knowledge and extra time. However, since the connection is over the internet, adequate performance is not guaranteed.A multi-cloud application environment usually means that the applications must communicate with each other, over the public clouds. Possibly realtime so that a delay on the underlying connection is immediately noticeable in the entire application chain, which has a direct impact on the user experience. This can be annoying for your employees and the users of your application. With online shops it could even happen that customers drop out if the speed is not sufficient.
A direct connection with every environment
With OpenStack Connect you are able to establish a direct connection between OpenStack and any other environment. Between CloudVPS OpenStack and, for example, Amazon Web Services (AWS Direct Connect) and/or Microsoft Azure (ExpressRoute). But also between your office location(s) and your application on OpenStack. By using OpenStack Connect you can make your connection more secure by not connecting directly via the public internet (with public addresses).OpenStack Connect allows you to link directly, but this link still has to be made. An additional service is required for the actual linking of OpenStack with CloudVPS to public clouds, such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. This can be done with the Cloud Connect service from Signet, or with other connectivity services. There are countless possibilities and we advise you to contact CloudVPS to discuss this. At your office location(s) you undoubtedly already have Internet connectivity from a provider. In many cases it is fairly easy to link to OpenStack Connect from the existing connection(s) and the provider. Our connectivity experts are also happy to advise you on this.
Determine your requirements
OpenStack Connect is a service for connecting networks. The connection between other public clouds and/or your office location(s) determine the stability and performance. It is therefore important that you first carefully examine what your application(s) needs when selecting a solution. Delay time for a good inventory and pay attention to the connections within your application(s), the maximum latency and the required throughput. This inventory determines your requirements on the basis of which you can make a selection.
When the connection is ready you have direct access to your OpenStack environment. A kind of back door. You will receive this 'backdoor' in your OpenStack project as an additional OpenStack network. You can link your applications to this network and make them accessible. With the same security group functionalities, as you have on all OpenStack networks, to further secure this. You make your application(s) available to employees as if they were running locally in your network. Because the connections are outside the internet you are more certain of the availability. And you do not have to put in more time, as is the case with a VPN connection. That means no troubleshooting and no more patches and updates to your VPN appliance.
