your data stored3x by default

Storage in short

We offer storage for three purposes; instances, volumes and object store. All instances use full SSD by default. For volumes, depending on the type of data, you can choose from full SSD or file & archive storage. You only pay for the storage the moment you make use of it.

Our storage environment is fully redundant and based on Dell EMC PowerEdge servers because of their reliability, stability and performance. In addition, we store your data three times by default, at no additional cost. You can expect high reliability in data availability with a wide range of functionalities.

Features

Three types of storage

We offer storage for three purposes; instances, volumes and Object Store.

Instances

Each instance your create, is stored on full SSD block storage. This ensures that your instances have sufficient disk performance.

Volumes

We have block storage available for you to create volumes and link them to your instances. Depending on the type of data you want to store, you can choose from full SSD or file & archive storage. If desired, you can also move the data between these two storage options. The Horizon dashboard or OpenStack API allows you to easily manage your volumes.

Where full SSD offers the best price/performance, file & archive storage delivers the best price/capacity. This storage tier, based on 7.2K SATA disks, is highly suitable for storing files that require little access. This includes backup files or archive databases. Also, mail server data stores or data disks that are not used intensively, can make good use of this.

Object Store

In addition to instance and volume block storage, we also offer Object Store. This type of storage is capable of processing large amounts of data, storing images, media files, documents, and backups. You can manage the Object Store via a convenient API or URL.

Your data stored in three places by default

Our storage environment, like all other components in our OpenStack platform, is fully redundant. Since data is so important, we have chosen to store it even three times. We do this by default at no additional cost.

The underlying infrastructure is based on Dell EMC PowerEdge servers due to their reliability, stability and performance. We use Ceph so you can rely on a correct operation with high reliability in data availability and a wide range of functionalities.

Pay per use

As with all other OpenStack components, you will not be charged until you make use of is. In case of instance storage, we charge you when you create a new instance. The same applies to volumes; you pay for the storage you use. At least for one hour and for as long as the storage is present.

The IOPS limit for SSD type volumes is 2,000 and for file & archive 300.

The cost of the Object Store depends on actual usage. There are three elements that together determine the costs. You can find more information about this on our Object Store page.

Features

You get full access and various functionalities to manage your storage. For example, when creating instances and volumes, you can choose an availability zone and between the storage tiers full SSD and file & archive storage. If your need for a volume changes, you can increase it or convert it to any other storage tier at any time.

You can create multiple snapshots of your instances and volumes. You can use the snapshot to create new volumes and instances.

If you own multiple OpenStack accounts – think of DTAP environments or multiple development teams – you can migrate volumes to another account, thus allowing you to segment.

The above-mentioned features can be used via the Horizon Dashboard and OpenStack API.
